About Employees' University
The Board of Supervisors and County Departments have long
recognized and valued employee training and development. It is a
key function of managers and supervisors to support and provide
for the skill development and enhancement of every employee.
The Employees' University (EU) is designed to complement and
enhance existing departmental training efforts. It will offer
County employees the chance to obtain training on subjects useful
in all departments. The EU is tied to the Board of Supervisors'
strategic plan and is designed to enhance employee skills to
better meet the demands of the community.
What's It Like?
The courses offered in the Employees' University are designed to be
hands-on workshops that will provide practical skills that you can put
to use immediately. The EU is for adult learners interested in working
on real world situations. Whether you are already taking classes or
returning to the classroom after a break, you will find the EU
experience enriching, comfortable and relevant.
Who Can Enroll?
EU courses are open to all County employees - regular, ordinance,
extra-help, and contractors on payroll. Employees must have supervisor's
approval to register.
Fees for ALL Classes
There is a $50 course fee per employee for each EU class (excludes course numbers that begins with EXT). The EU will
charge the department for each employee attending. There has been an increase of price for outside organizations (approved by the EU Governing Council): 75$ per person for all EU courses with the exception of the Supervisors' Institute series, 125$ per person. EXT course fees varies and are included in the course descriptions.
Cancellation Policy
You may cancel a class up to 72 hours prior (not including weekends) by sending an email to EU Registrar (euregis@co.santa-barbara.ca.us). If your department chooses
to send someone in your place and missed the 72 hour cancellation deadline,
it is required you contact the Registrar by email to confirm proper billing and enrollment.
No-Show/Cancellation Charge
There are no refunds for no-shows or cancellations less than 72 hours prior to the class.
The EU "Be There" Policy
All EU classes begin and end on time. You are expected to attend the whole
class. Credit will not be given if you are over 30 minutes late or leave
before the end of class.
Room temperatures vary. You might want to bring a sweater on cool days.
The EU will provide you with a notebook. Please bring a pen or pencil.
Our "Be There" policy means that you plan to turn off phones & pagers
and be ready to participate, learn and bring new ideas and enthusiasm
back to the workplace.
Time Sheet Coding
We are tracking the time that County employees spend in EU training. Please code your time attending an EU class as EUA under "Project" or "Activity" on your time sheet.
College Applications
Please complete the online community college enrollment application form! You only have to complete it once. This online enrollment application form mean revenue for the EU. When our employees complete it, they are supporting the Employees' University while earning college credit for themselves. (It is always nice to have some extra college credits).
